That would be cool!
I don't want to throw a wet blanket on this idea as there are always possibilities.
The Androids use Googles speech recognition service AFAIK. The voice processing is all sever side.
Voice independent recognition takes some serious processing power though that power is getting closer all the time. Voice dependant is a lot easier, but very tedious to initially train. I has been a long time since I have researched this so maybe someone else can step in and fill in the blanks for us
Take care.

There is a very good engine by Nuance called Dragon NaturallySpeaking. It works Cortex A8 class machine as they already have a version for iPhone. You should try asking them about their plans for MeeGo and/or to make it available on MeeGo if they don't already have plans to do so.

Ps: their engine is not voice-specific, although it can be trained to improve accuracy further.

Looks like there has been some community activity on this already
See Thread
See Brainstorm

There is also an pocket sphinx up and running on iPhone which could maybe be ported to the n900

now granted this is nothing like Dragon NaturallySpeaking but it mite be a good starting point

I don't think there is anything in Linux that does a good job of speech to text. If I can't do this on my desktop computer (except with Dragon NaturallySpeaking) It would surprise me if I could do it on my N900. I wish...

So, has anyone contacted Nuance about their plans?
