If you don't like it, sell it and get an iPhone. Simples.

Personally I love it and have non of the issues you mention. It's not aimed at mass market because they don't get this phone. If you don't want to experiment or enjoy the fact it is debian based then why did you buy it?

I don't think anybody could claim not to know that the app support is better on Android and the iPhone than Maemo, so if you wanted work-out-of-the-box features with a large catalog of fart apps and games then why choose the N900?

I actually have a Toyota in which the "Check Engine" light comes on frequently. I took it to the Toyota service garage and they told me to turn the car off & on 3 times and the light will go away, and I can just ignore it...

The only compensation I am looking for is my $50.00 rebate card! I did my research, filled out the form, created the account, mailed in my stuff and here it is five months later - nothing!

Yes, we just freaking need YET ANOTHER of these topics.

Please, you usual folks, come post the same stuff here again. Because you know we just have not heard it enough.

Sigh.

I guess the most spoken line on this forum

'If you don't like it, sell it and get an iPhone'

and recommending a vendor who is the most hated one here.
irony is the haters are becoming the salesmen

Wake me up when someone successfully sues Nokia for false advertising.

Until then, this is a case of people 'assuming' the device had functions that were never mentioned as present or not. (The exception being the issues with MfE provisioning).Nokia is not liable for your assumptions. Nor is it required to provide unlimited 'support' - unless your contract of purchase lists 'updates for life'? Mine doesn't.

It's very easy to point to other manufacturers and say 'but they do it'. It would be wonderful if Nokia chose to give us more than our contracts But unless you have a contract promising something, it's a grace item from Nokia. Even PR 1.3.

Not really... It honestly makes sense.

Most people here dislike the iPhone for the same reasons they like the N900. The iPhone is philosophically the opposite of the N900. Physically they're almost identical, have the same processor and lots of similar hardware, but the approach is different.

Lets compare them with something most people have experience with, game hardware.

The iPhone is the Nerf ball of phones: It has mass appeal, is totally safe to play with, but you can only do so much with it because it's just a solid hunk of foam. The N900 is a croquet set: You can play croquet, bocce, or bring your own horse and play polo. But it's not exactly kid safe, has lots of sharp edges and parts to lose, and has complex rules that you have to be willing and able to understand in order to enjoy it fully.

Personally, I go for the croquet set, because I know and enjoy the many games I can play with the set. But there's a good chunk of my friends I would not advise getting a croquet set. I'd have visions of them smacking each other (or themselves) with the mallets, see the balls flying through windows, etc, and instead suggest they get a Nerf ball. It doesn't mean I like Nerf balls, it means I think for their own safety (and mine) it's better they have a soft spongy ball.

Do you see the reasoning?

I hope that Nokia sure don't make N900 user experiense any better or give us any updates that helps us to navigate or buy quality content to our phones. Let's also hope that Nokia manages to avoid as many app developers as they can with keeping Ovi Store as lifetime beta with Angry Birds level packs becouse thats all the apps you'll ever need!

One day all you iphone loverz will realize that all the support and contet you get is not going to make you happy anymore. I'm very upset with the fact that electronic devices seems to have updates and undocumented features that makes device better AFTER you have bought it. It just doesn't make sense! We all should be greatfull to nokia fighting against corporations giving free updates afterwards!

Happy weekend to all Nokia fanboyz out there! We keep this community running!

ps. To guy that whines about battery life. Buy two replacement batteries and travel charger and stop whining. Or buy an iPhone!

Jeeeeez!!! Am I bored with these threads. A new one pops up every day on the Nokia boards. And they seem to be by peeps who actually lack the aptitude to use such a device, but prefer to slate the device and Nokia rather than admit to their failings to understand the device.

I spent months popping in and out of various phone retailers to get their feedback on the handset before I took the plunge. (And I heard some real outlandish things from different sales people).

A whole month before I bought the device, I discovered this site. I found out that it didn't do MMS or send files over Bluetooth straight out of the box, so I searched a bit more and found fMMS and Petrovich along with a whole raft of other little apps that plugged the holes that Nokia left.
Needless to say, I love the N900. It's been a learning curve from the old bug ridden S60 V3 N95-8GB that I used to have (I still have it actually) and yes, I do miss some of the little toys from the S60 stable, i.e Photobrowser etc.

But to tell the truth, the biggest gripe I have about my N900 is that it's a Vodafone handset with a firmware lock. i.e We're not allowed to update the firmware until Vodafone say we can, and they're 2 versions behind.
Unless of course you take the time to learn about Maemo Flasher.

And as far as the Apple App Store goes. It may have 100,000 apps, but when you sort them all into categories i.e Sudoku apps, image viewers, buttons that make rude noises, face warp apps etc.......... You'll soon find that the real count is something like 10,000 apps that do the same thing.
