There's already an app for that:

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...hlight=sms+gps

Didn't test it though.

This already exists for the n900 and even integrates nicely into conversations:

The problem with that solution is that it only shows your current location on a map and it doesn't allow you to save the points in time online so that people can see the track i've walked.

Another problem is that it only shows your location to your jabber friends (and they have to get an application for it too). I'd like to plot the track on google maps so that i can put it on my website. When people visit the page, they can see the progress that i've made so far.

There is a branch of Map Buddy in progress to add the tracking feature and save the log in a file:

http://gitorious.org/map-buddy/map-b...rge_requests/1
http://gitorious.org/~andreash/map-b...mmits/tracking

It can be hacked to send the position to your webserver instead.

Map Buddy does not publish your location, only Azimuth does (if it is installed and enabled in the control panel). Azimuth does not need to be installed to use the tracking feature in Map Buddy.

There are a couple of apps that can write a logged track to a file. But thats not what i want.

And my mother doesn't have map buddy or another app that can show my position on the map. Thats why it has to be webbased.

A lot of apps can be hacked so that they do what i want. My problem is that i'm a Delphi and PHP programmer. C, C++ and Python are out of my league. And my first steps with the Maemo development environment didn't go very well either.

My hope is that one of the authors will add the feature to their existing application.
