Not sure if it's the placebo effect or not, but after making a change in the config double tap seems to be working again...
Can someone try this and let me know what result they get?
Open MicroB and type about:config, then find block-zoom.block-zoom-enabled and set it to true (highlight it and hit enter).
Anyone wanna try this and see if it helps?

Excellent! Thanks....being bugging me forever!.....for the iphone there is an 'app for that' to fix things....for the N900....there is a simple setting you can change and make your phone better....I prefer the settings
