There was no sound in the 770 NiTdroid port if I remember correctly.
We just happened to have seen different things it seems. How about a comparison then. Point your N900 to those same websites and let's time it. I'll await your results and/or video.

I remember stuttery sound on the 770. But that was some long time ago. I also remember sound being problematic on the 770 via OS2007HE or OS2008HE as well. So, that's an official release with horrible sound. Expecting a hacked OS to have sound is a leap of faith that would pure folly to believe otherwise.

Yeah, I have no problem with anyone doing whatever they want with their N900. Hack away in whatever way turns your crank. Any interest in the N900 is good interest.

My point was about what the OP said:
"...Maemo OS - threw it to the trashcan and installed mobile world's hottest OS - Android 2.2."
...and that as far as I'm concerned it was a step backward, replacing a fine OS with an (to me) inferior one. I just felt it was an unfair opinion, not a fact yet stated as one.

Anyway, as I already made clear I'm not interested in Android either, not even to dual-boot.

Considering the basis from which it started, it will likely be stable and mature out of the gate. It might seem shocking to think that is possible, but once you've learned all the hard lessons it's easier to not screw up down the line. On top of that, it's really a matter of how stable it is once released commercially which is still a while away.

As an addendum to gerbick's response. For developers, people who like to tinker, etc..
I read this as a whimpering mumble, mumble, mumble...

but its OK I didn't really expect anyone to step up to it.

I doubt it. Nokia has a bad habit of complete re-scrapping. I also question the usability process that Maemo 5 went through if they think this is step 4 out of 5.

For me Android on the N900 is interesting and not something I want to move to. I think that if you want Android, it would be easier to simply get a phone with Android as the default OS?

Where's the fun in that? Maemo device owners tend to be adventurous and want to do things that we're not supposed to do.

The problem with getting an Android phone is the landmine field. Which is a shame since it really shouldn't be.

You have to ask. Is the device going get a firmware update. Which is dependent on the carrier and/or manufacturer. It's not something where you just take an image or download it when Google releases it. Some devices out there will never get an update sadly. The alternative is to find a device with a community set around hacking it (usually the big popular ones like Droid, Evo 4, etc..)

It's kinda weird to think the N900 is closer to running Froyo than most Android phones will ever be.

Heh, I didn't say Flash is not 10.1... What exactly should I measure? The MySpace "Install Flash 10.1" rectangle? Or maybe some Youtube loading screens since not a single video there worked?

The sound was not problematic in 770 - there was only one speaker and it tried to work on two. It was perfectly working with headphones.

Anyway, have to run, no time for more pointless trolling.

Nonsense, the OP sent the tone for the whole thread. This thread is a troll thread!
