Good catch, seems likely.

Now that you think of it, this bug can cause some very embarrassing situations... This time, it was fifaschedule, tomorrow it could be furryconvention2011planner.

Think of all the free apps you can randomly get!
Nokia should turn this into a brilliant sweepstakes/raffle event!

Except that no one actually wins and it's an epic fail for Ovi

Seriously though, how can a bug like that manifests itself??

Tomaszd - you could be right. i recall messing around with the app manager (installing / uninstalling applications one by one) as i was trying to see what was causing hildon-desktop to have slightly high CPU time.

That bug seems to be the reason, However, where the package came from if it wasn't official and visible on the public? Any secret repository we don't know about?

I'm saying you get random apps installed just by randomly doing install/uninstall cycles on yours...

...and it seems you can get packages that are not yet released too by this way.

I'm pretty sure nobody in Meego has even thought of bulding such a system like this (the first post), yet alone designed and implemented and tested and integrated it into the sw release. Sounds strange anyway.

Hmm, if this alleged bug proves to be true - especially with the SMS-privacy breach in mind - I might consider not using the N900 anymore.
So far I tried to avoid buying a iPhone or Android(Google) phone simply because I was somewhat scared of the way those companies relentlessly gather personal information or restrict control of a device. That's why I opted for a system from a (what I thought) so far "morally honest" company like Nokia. But that prestine image seems to get more and more cracks and dents the last coupla months.

Worries me a lot...

Thinking about it, I would be slightly surprised if there were NOT a feature like this. Maybe using Nokia's Smart Messaging protocol (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_Messaging) with some specific port number? Anyone know whether Maemo implements Nokia Smart Messaging?

I am sure, in this case, it was the AppMgr bug (after all, no one is very likely to be pushing a World Cup app) but I am also sure some such features exist. Maybe another reason why CSD is not open?
