Hello to all,

I have leeched this forum for the past 2 years learning so many things about my 770 that I never had a need to jump in here and ask a question. Well, things have since changed and now I have that need.

I setup and configured as per this forum my LG vx9800 and 770 DUN via BT without any issues. I recently bought a Motorola q9m and trying to do the same thing. With Verizon locking down their DUN and "phone as modem" component, I had Verizon turn on the $15/month DUN piece. I already have the unlimited data plan and still having trouble connecting my 2 devices. The rep gave me the new login for the packet data connection "dun.vzw3g.com" and the password is still the same but, when I try to connect, my bluetooth icon on the phone lights up for just a second and then an error pops up on my 770 that says something of the sort "cannot establish connection with the phone" or something along that line.

questions:
1. any suggestions on how to get the two connected?
2. anyway around the $15/month fee?

thanks to all for all the information that I have learned over time!
james

Thanks for replying Bun... it's still a no-go.

on the q9m, I have a little bluetooth icon that lights up as soon as I try to make a connection via "verizon wireless" ... but it immediately goes out and on the 770, an error pops up "connection to phone failed. try again?"

I tried re-pairing several times but that doesn't seem to be the case on this one.

any other thoughts?

thanks,
James

Sounds like a bluetooth problem, but could BT be working OK and you have a DUN problem?

Try sending or receiving files between your 770 and phone to test basic BT connectivity.

i believe the problem you have is that you have to set up DUN properly on the Q.
i am selling my treo on ebay and bought a krzr and went through this process 2x (once on the treo and once on the krzr) you should research on how to enable dun on the q which is why i suggested mark.cdmaforums.com and verizonwireless.howardforums.com.

cdma/verizon dunning is a bit more tricky than standard gsm

That was exactly the problem I had. It is a DUN problem. You can:

Try to send/receive a file via BT, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=9517, just to test whether there is any BT issue. I doubt it.

The DUN of your phone has to be turned on, o/w N800 "the paired phone/device does not has any usable service...pairing failed" something like that

Try to check out your acct, user name and dialing number by pairing your phone with a PC, using Pdanet. There is absolutely NO setup once you download the version of pdanet for your phone. It is a paid subscription but there is a free trial version just to test your configuration.

I dont think you are there yet, but if you are able to pair but not connect, you may need to turn on the DUN on your phone then turn it off, and let the N800 wake up the phone. That works for my Treo.

post back and see where is the issue, we will make it work

ok Bun,
Was able to send files back and forth via bluetooth without a problem. I was NOT able to establish a sync between my computer and the q9m via bluetooth. I think this was just more of a configuration issue so I'll keep working on it. While tethered though, I was able to utilize the PDANET software and get an internet connection between my computer and q9m. I noticed that PDANET installs a modem driver during it's install to establish the connection.

For the 770/q9m connection, how does the 770 see the q9m as a modem similar to how pdanet does? There is an icon on the q9m under accessories called "modem link" and according to the verizon site, this must be set to ACTIVE in order to establish a connection. So before anyone asks, "yes", I have attempted this several different ways.

prk60091 > I truly appreciate the links to those sites but I have read through so much of it that my mind is mush. I cannot find anything specific that tells me how to get past this issue. Would you mind helping me find exactly what it is that I am looking for in order to get this done... again, thank you.

welcom > Again, great reading. The only issue for my situation is that it is very specific that this hack does not apply to WM6 smartphones. I am anxiously awaiting their next update.

my hats off to all of you that take that time to help people like me looking to keep our "electronic leashes" nice and tight.

thanks,
James
