By tablets, just to clarify, we are talking about always on, possibly always connected, fanless noiseless slates that can also be carried to use on the couch to read newspapers etc and are incredibly light such that they are almost weightless in your bag.
We are not talking about slate PC's. Which are just glorified laptops complete with all their deficencies.

I find irony in how no other tablet maker this year has the sales numbers of Apple. Mind you; it's not saying it's a better product - it's not - but that now it's a wide-open market and nothing has come forth that... well, has sold well.

The point I was making is that if Nokia don't get their act together soon - they will only be selling low end phones in the future leaving others to sell the high profit devices. Look what HTC has done in the last few years never mind Apple in the smartphone sector once 'owned' by Nokia. I wonder how many n900 & n97 have been sold since launch compared the n95

Ironic because the iPad is honestly a rather flawed device yet it's selling like hotcakes.
Ironic because it's crossed over from luxury item and/or hacker toy into computer that savvy and non-savvy folks use.
Ironic because the competition is floundering whereas it is not.
I'm on the side of finding a tablet myself... but my requirements are a bit different. I don't even need root. I just need to be able to use what I need to use (cbr/cbz, web, IM, video IM, e-mail, ability to view flash based webpages)... and it falls short in this iteration and yet no other sizable tablet outside of the Dell Streak (not yet released in the US) does what I want.
Nokia left the tablet market at the wrong time.

I have several Win tablet UMPC's with battery life around the 7 hour mark and I guess I would call them slates albiet not all day use and relatively heavy ones and they are all from niche producers that make only a few thousand devices worldwide Viliv, UMID etc.
