I'm not quite sure how it happened but for whatever reason the screen on my 4 month-old N900 died, I am only seeing colored vertical lines on the left side of the screen. If I tried to look more carefully I could barely make out somethings on the screen, like the time when the screen was locked. The device itself appears to be working but useless because I am unable to see anything, so I sent it in for repair. Luckily, I have my old 1st Gen iPhone laying, so I jailbroke and unlocked it, threw my TMobile SIM in it and I'm good to go for now... Definitely missing my N900...

that would be a disconnected ribbon.

reconnecting it is not a lot of work for repair. so your device (hopefully) be back soon........

Yay!

That's what I was thinking after finding a few reports of that here. I did not feel adventurous enough to do the fix myself.

Thanks for the response!

Interestingly I find that data xfer rates on my 1G iPhone appear to be faster on TMobile than what it was when I was on AT&T's Edge network...

Seeing as how you're in the east bay of the SF Bay, I'm going to guess you're somewhere near Milpitas or Alameda or something. If that's the case, there should be an overabundance of repair shops that could probably reattach the screen's cable, if gabby131 is right.

On the other hand, if you actually end up needing anything more than that--Good luck. Nokia's customer service has been appalling and it'll be interesting to find out what you do to resolve your screen problems, seeing as how it's incredibly hard to even get the parts, nevermind find a Nokia repair location that will fix it for you.

So today I got an email from Nokia Repair Support today stating they received my N900 and it's in their queue for repair which should take between 7-10 business days. I expected them to receive it tomorrow so their getting it a day ahead of time is sounding good to me.

WOW! I got my N900 back on Friday and Nokia even included a $10 VISA Gift card!!! So the entire process of my sending and their repairing and returning the phone took 1 week! Color me impressed!!!
