Does anyone know if you can download all the maps for a stae or region at one time. I have been pulling down all the maps along the route I plan but if I want to take a side trip along the way and do not have access to the internet it goes black. I am using a 2gb card for maps only and should have plenty of room for a lot of maps in high detail. It would be great if Maemo Mapper could use the US maps fron Navicore since they have the US split into two, east & west, so you can have the whole us on one card.

In the meantime the 770 is fantastic.

search the forum for winmapper. it is a windows app that allows you to download the maps on a windows machine, and put them on your devices card. seems to do what you are looking for as well.

yes maemo-mapper is both reliable and accurate and yes it does have voice prompts. my GPS device is listed in my signature. if you search the forum you will find a whole thread on GPS devices with pros and cons

Use the "Manage Maps" dialog by selecting the "Manage Maps..." menu item from the "Maps" menu. In that dialog, you can download maps either "By Area" (given coordinates of a geographic rectangle) or "Along Route". It's not specifically "by state" or "by region", but if you look up the lat/lon coordinates you need, you should be able to download the maps that you need.

A caveat: the voice prompts are not voice-recorded, but are instead generated by flite (a light version of festival). Many people have complained that the voice sounds too robotic. Sorry, but since the directions (things like "Turn left at Main Street. Go 2.4 miles.") are generated by a third party, and I'm not going to try and record my voice (or anyone else's) for all possible directions.

Technically, if you know SQL and have access to sqlite3, you can modify the POI database however you like, so long as the existing tables and columns aren't removed or renamed. You can add a column, but it won't have any effect on Maemo Mapper - that is, Maemo Mapper won't display the new column anywhere.

Ok. Thanks.
I am just learning sqlite3.
You are right it's simplified SQL, or MySQL.
What I mean if to make extension to your POI user interface to let new fields to be inserted into POI record.
What I mean is safety cams POI category,
really special , requiring more attention that standard POI.
I have already e-mailed a developer of speed control applet to your mm
but get no reply.
I would like to write safety cam POI applet to work closely with road speed limits database and running an intelligent proximity warning algorithm.

Please let me know how difficult is to write an applet to be run by your mm.
As I read one need development platform to compile applets for Nokia 770/800.
How much time it takes to to start up ?
Mayby should I use Python to write a script, have it run to access POI.db
and show same extra data in mm window on mm window fresh ?
Just installed Python.
I am looking for a trivia solution, just for testing.

Hi,

one question.
It is possible to have map tiles visible in mm window to follow heading
in non-route mode (track recording only) ?
I think +/- 90 o and 180 flip should suffice .
Flip right, flip left to keep a truck following heading on a trip.
Any chance for this new feature ?

Darius
