If you have installed lots of applications or large ones, uninstall those.
If you have filled the space with your stuff, use the filemanager to delete some of it.
If neither is true, then maybe some application went out of control and has written almost 2 GB of (maybe temporary) data.

thanks

maybe both cases in this scenario...

i'm trying to clean it but the builtin file manager is not user friendly, so no idea where to start... gpe file manager seems to help identify the home location, but deleting keeps throwing denied access error, dont beleive files/folder are locked by any process, maybe someone should build a file explorer that can delete files from these key locations. example cannot remove openarena folder.

well i'm in this situation after fcam drivers kill my device and add to reflash... maybe i did install to many apps but i should be able to somehow clear some stuff... un-installer is causing issue because of no space left in /home

resolution:

how to find what is taking space?
use diskusage or storage usage, not sure how to find this from cmd prompt but most likely there is a way also.

how to free space from home location etc?
if un-installing has been done and the app is still taking space, then open cmd prompt, then sudo gainroot, then remove folder left behind: example to remove openarena left behinds: rm -r /home/opt/openarena

This could be fatal if you delete critical files/folders needed by the system

List of additional useful commands to be used via cmd prompt:

ls = list directory contents
cd = change directory
cd .. = one directory up
mv = move
cp = copy
mkdir = make a directory
rm = delete (-r foldername / removes folder)

I had this problem too...
The best way is to check out your "home" folder (in /root/home) with the app called Storage Usage. This can be found in the repos.

You can see how big each folder is, so you can immediately see which app is huge and is ready to get deleted.
The best user friendly file manager to access your /home/ directory, is Cute Explorer (also in the repos)

Secondly:
I saw that I had 500mb of unnecessary cache from apt get... I deleted those in xterminal with the following command: apt-get clean

I hope the 2 advices will help you

Thank you for this info.

In my case i already had the utilities installed to check space but if not then i would have in troubles as the issues i was seing related to not being able to use the install/uninstall software due to the lack of space.

I must say that i been using a great utility called: "faster application manager"

and got carried away installing apps, cannot fault faster application manager in any way, as is a top application.

The answer "uninstall apps" makes me mad (even though it's true). That problem was SOLVED for the N800 and N810 with booting from an MMC card. Now it's back. You have to pick which apps you run no matter how much you like all of them.

Furthermore, there are no comprehensible instructions for booting the whole system from an MMC card with the N900 as we did with earlier tablets, or at least that's how I see it. I would welcome a link to prove me wrong.

(Edit: Penguinbait, where are you when we need you

Here is another tip for browsing files locally:
file:///
in your web browser, is read only but shows files sizes and structure.

I also hear that emelfm is good filemanager, but is not installing for some unknown reason
