I have the following problem:
From my N900 I have an OpenVPN connection to my home network where my Dreambox 800HD is located.
I can ping the dreambox from the console without any problems. I can also browse the web interface from the dreambox via the N900 web browser.
However it seems that the DreamRemote Application can not talk with my dreambox. All commands I sent failed: statistics 22 Button pressed - 22 failed.
The application is correctly configured with the IP Address of the dreambox. I think the problem is that the application directly talks with the wlan interface but does not use the tap0 interface? Any help?
Great idea!

i think the dreamremote will work with all boxes who uses enigma2...

eg.
Kathrein ufs922
Atevio AV700,AV7000
IpBox
...

@ the developer
i tested it on my Kathrein ufs910 - works great.

but i think a "PORTRAIT-MODE" would be very cool, looks more like an real remote
could you make that?

edit:

so i made a screenshot of the landscape mode and edited it to a portrait mode hehe
maybe i could look like that:

(this is only a photo-edit from the landscape mode)

what you think about ?

Have you to enter a password to browse the web interface?
I don't talk direkt with the w-lan interface. I simply send a http request tru the current socket connection using the default python urllib2 library.

Perhaps you can start DreamRemote in the terminal and look for any kind of errors. But I guess DreamRemote has problems with the OpenVPN connection. I never thought about anything like that.

Thanks a lot. Good to hear. I own only a DreamBox 7025 and I'm unable to test DreamRemote with other receivers. So I need this kind of feedback.

I guess I could. Yes. But I have at the moment not enought time.
The funny thing... I began with the Portrait mode Layout several months ago and later I created the Landscape Layout. After several hours I found out that I'm unable to activate the portrait mode using Qt. This works only since PR1.2 and at this time I finished the first version of DreamRemote and I asked myself how often I will use it this way whilst the rest of the Desktop is still only in landscape (Task switcher at example).
I need now a lot more time to implement it afterwars because of the different layouts for Enigma1/2, Kathrein and especially AZBox and foobar.

I have to implement the automatic layoutchanges for them, too. (a lot of work and testing)

Some day I will try to implement it. But I guess I will try to add more stuff for foobar first... I'm not sure.

Nice mockup.
Mine is close by. In difference my Volume and Bouquet Buttons are at the same level on the left and the right of the Numbers. The Mute button is at the upper left corner and the TV, Radio, Text and Help Buttons are at the bottom on the left and the right.

DreamRemote now works on Vu+ Duo (using OpenPLi) box after last nights update...

Link to openPLi forum thread.

How do I start the application in a terminal?

I use the following Image on my dreambox: Newnigma2-Release-2010-06-30. Should it work with that one?

Open the Terminal (at example with the keys Ctrl + Shift + X) and enter:
Code:
DreamRemote

Hmm... I don't know what Newnigma2 is. Is it a official Image from dream multimedia?

Ouh, okay. That's very strange.

It seems the IP adress is correctly stored. But perhaps there could be a problem with the encoding. In what country do you live and what N900 version do you own? (what keyboard)
