The differences are fairly simple:
* Locale / Language specifics
* Radio Frequency differences & power levels
* IM restrictions (Some variations don't have Skype)
That's about it, not much more to say. If you flash with the global version there are no restrictions that you can't overcome with applications available in the repo's.

Skype is available on USA firmware, Radio Frequency is all the same in every firmware (I flashed all of them to see the differences)
Locale language differences is none.
No Idea why there is nothing different between those firmwares

because the n900s from Hong Kong dont have the fm transmitter, cant remember the reason though something along the lines of, it's prohibited to use unauthorised radio tranmissions
