This is the most open tablet + phone device that there is. It runs a linux distribution based on debian and a few other hacks. When meego matures, that will be another good option, too.

I would still buy the N900 today, because there is currently no other option out there.

To Nokia, N900 and it's user base does not exist. Since Meego path appeared, Nokia guys have disappeared from here.

Well, N900 due to it's HW, is a good test bed for Meego handset version.

Probably, and hopefully, the community is able to port MeeGo to N900, Maemo 5 might get the 1.3 update, but that will not fix the big shortcomings in Maemo's closed apps like calendar, email and Maps.

I just got an email from MyNokia telling how great Maps is in N900. They politely "forget" to say that Maps application cannot reroute w/o deleting the current navpath, it does not allow own POI's etc.

What would be interesting to know is that to my understanding new versions of Maps are Qt-based, so any update to it should run on Maemo..right?. And if Meego gets ported to N900, does N900 user get Maps since the license to use it was included in N900 purchase?.

I assume you're from USA, well I don't mean to offend but if it's not sold in USA anymore, doesn't mean it's stopped to be sold elsewhere.

USA != The world
USA < The world ....

Prob this might be reason behind n900 disappearing from website..

People remember nokia sold for 199$ after MIR and then people bashed their website like hell..

Everybody tried to order atleast 5 times not knowing that its OOS. Even nokia didn't stop people from ordering online. Result, they have to reverse lot of errored credit card transactions and people bashed their customer care and online systems with bad reviews.

I ordered one when the item is not available online thru their customer care and it went well, still waiting to receive.

BTW iam also one who bashed their site multiple times.

Thread is just stupid. The end of n900 will be after Nokia officially announces it... Everything else are just speculations based on nothing concrete...

I just checked Nokia USA website, they are not selling Nokia n900 anymore, is this it? no more n900 from Nokia?
Just nothing.

Sorry, but I fail to see how you could have invested any more than 10 minutes and not seen any kind of indication of the N900 being more towards tech hobbyists and hackers.

This forum alone has a post an hour complaining about it :P
