I have tried everything to get mplayer to open as the external player in vc but I have had no luck. Has anyone else had this problem. I really do not want to reflash my n800 again, but I want to use mplayer as the default player. Any ideas?

I do not mean to be funny...........do you know where it stored? It could be /usr/bin or /usr/sbin or ? What do you mean by why?

install GPE-file manager, its a GUI for xterm/ls. Use that to find your mplayer....

Do you have the latest version of vc? You need that to run an external player.

I know where mplayer is on my n800; /usr/bin/mplayer. However, vc never starts the external player. It just pops up the message that it is opening the external player, but it never opens. I don't want to re-flash my n800, but I think a re-flash and no restore might fix the problem. If anyone has another idea I would appreciate it though because I have about a dozen or so programs to reinstall plus all of my bookmarks and settings.

What do you have in the VC settings to launch it? /usr/bin/mplayer -cache 1024 %s ?

What are you trying to stream? cbs? discovery? textra? diggnation? ....

Mplayer plays .avi, you need a .avi file for it to open. Disc, CBS are .mp4 opens media player. Try the following, they should open mplayer, make sure your Tools>settings>pref player>ext player (your mplayer location...)

Goto services in video center and add new internet video. Name it, then paste the url address in(show urls below) and leave username and password blank. The xvid are the only ones that start to stream using the mplayer as the external player. Best just to download it first since they don't have mobile version of xvid on revision, and it can freeze sometimes when streaming directly -well depending on your connection.

Diggnation:

TRS:

And do not use ">>" to open streaming. Instead, menu>file>video streaming.

If the above 3 shows are too boring to you, it is boring for me, try PodshowTV for N800, the default shows from Nokia, look up TeXtra80, there's no place like home, the TeXtra girl has a new hairdo and shows her cleave , that should wake up anybody, including your mplayer

post back if error mess

Thanks for the tips! I tried the streams and still have had no luck. Mplayer still will not open as the external player. I can open mplayer from xterm with no problems however. Thanks again for your help.

Can you open mplayer by itself from your installed menu, like menu>Extras? And play some media file to convince that the mplayer is installed correctly, before trying with VC.....
