But one will have to slide out the keyboard... which is not very convenient while the device is in a car mount.

My trick is to press the camera button which will bring up the camera application (with a message that the camera is closed). Then I close the camera application and find myself in the dashboard. Voilą!
What is your approach to task-switch out of Mobile Maps? I'm sure there must be an easier way.
