Hm. Is Canada now afloat on its own land mass or what?

He's been a senior executive at Microsoft, Adobe and Macromedia.

So there is something worse than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

I have mixed feelings about this - of course as an outsider and not dealing with Company stategies in my daily life I can't really judge it objectively - but just an a end user of Nokia products and Nokia philosophy I am not too optimistic about this move.

At least if nothing else - with OPK we knew he was behind the Meego push - as Nokia said so openly that Meego was going to drive its high-end products.

OPK was behind the Symbian push to open source land also - as Nokia very clearly laid down its strategies regarding Symbian development.

So these were known constants - as CEO he was allowing these moves to Open source Meego and open source Symbian and its further developments.

Now with this unknown variable of a new CEO - these strategies might change over the long run. Yes not in the short run - I am sure no new CEO will come in and dictate new changes immediately - but over the long run he might move away from trying a new untested OS and instead think about going back with the tried and tested - Symbian only again.

All of this is of course conjecture - but these could happen.
I would hate to see such changes - and we can only see them after 1-2 years time maybe if that happens. But for now I am sure looking forward to a Meego N9 (or whatever).

Last time I checked, Canada was part of the American continent.

To be correct you can say North American. We don't like when you are lazy and just say American...it portrays the country, not the continent.

well Americans like to call us Europeans even though we like to be known by our National Identity not the Continent we are on, so its just a taste of their own medicine.

To those making unsubtantiated comments making wild inferences about:

- Having worked for Microsoft
- Having the name 'Steve'
- non finnish

"Oh hush already!"

Let's wait for facts. Go find something else to waste your time on rather than continuing with nonsensical hyphotesis.

I don't get it how you think a new CEO can cjust change everything.

First of all he was just working for microsoft..receiving a (very big) paycheck like everyone else. What makes you think that he still owes anything to them and will try to bring Windows Mobile to Nokia?

Secondly I doubt Nokia would have appointed this guy if he has intentions to destroy their work for four years. He will not destroy the internet tablets and Nokia will never abandon Symbian and Meego to adopt Windows.

Plus the directors get a say in decisions too. And I haven't heard of them changing.

Yes but we are not calling you Romanian instead of European. You calling us American instead of North American is completely different.

In the end I think this will be a good thing...as the markets are already showing...a change of leadership seemed to be needed.

Hush yourself! You're bringing me down here, man. I'm busy working my way through a lengthy list of large tech companies, sending each of them a copy of my birth certificate. There's obviously at least one tech CEO position out there with, well, my name on it.
