Did you connect your n900 in mass storage mode to a windows machine? Might be yout MyDocs partition got infected with some windows virus which replicates on usb sticks.

Sorry, which Windows virus would this be that infects Linux machines? Any ideas?

~/MyDocs/ (hate this name, why didn't they use "mydocs"???) is still formatted in fat32 and I saw once virus that creates binaries with folders names.

It isn't "infecting" a linux machine as such. When the n900 is attached to a windows machine it is just a storage device like a hard disk.

So the virus is on windows and just attaches itself to files on the n900 filesystem.

You could then open those files, even run them on the n900 and nothing untoward would happen.

You would need to plug the n900 into a different Windows machine and execute the infected files on the Windows machine for the virus to propagate. So I guess you could call the n900 a carrier at the most.

A virus is an application like any other, and is designed to run within a specific environment. You can't run x86 code on an n900 so it is immune to x86 viruses.

In addition to what paulkoan said, plugging your N900 in to a windows computer can still be damaging. There are more than a handful of viruses floating around that will embed themselves in near on any file if there is the potential to do harm. Think word documents, file name changes, icon changes - it's a very long list.

Your data can still get hosed by viruses, Maemo wont much care or even notice this, which is nice, but it can still be a double edged sword.

The likelihood of these being a virus isn't particularly great unless you are not running any virus protection on your Windows machine. The first reply was a bit of a stab in the dark. The follow comments are just to explain that Windows virus's do not generally infect linux machines.

So lets focus on the actual symptoms before heading into a diagnoses. All we know so far is that you have some unexpected files and your camera isn't working, and your file system is read only.

The last one is common, and happens when fat32 gets corrupted for some reason. You can do some searches to fix this, but the gist of it is:

sudo gainroot
umount /home/user/MyDocs
fsck -a /dev/mmcblk0p1
mount /home/user/MyDocs

fsck will ask which fat table to use - use the first one unless you have reason to suspect the second one is more accurate, but I have no idea how you would determine that.

Please don't go ahead blindly and do this -- do some searches of the problem on here, and make sure your situation is the same, and make sure you understand what it is you are doing.

The thing you need the most is ability to write reports from your problems that clear enough that those can be understood.

These are my quesses:
e: 0. Reboot
1. Is the app mentioned only app installed recently?
2. So there are new images in your image viewer app? (admon bug whatever)
3. Have you tried changing camera storage in camera settings?
