well, I don't know what to say... I will go to a service and have the phone checked, maybe it's another problem. I bought it as locked on Vodafone UK, but I do not have a Vodafone UK SIM to try it out, and other SIMs don't get any signal, and on a manul search no network is found, altrought at the begin the pin is requested and I can change the pin form the settings menu

thanks for all the answers

there was a sim icon in the status(where network is shown) and a red line was on it indicated that sim is locked.
i did go with "eMM"
my n900 is an indian ver...i think the diffrence is (no skype there!also a folder named "more" is not in there)

Why don't you try the latest global version?
(RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin)

Does the SIM icon you're seeing match the one in the following screenshot?

If so, that's a "SIM card not installed" icon, not a "SIM card locked" icon.

This sounds like it is not recognising the SIM. I had two N78-3 devices that would not recognize SIMs out of the box and I had to send them off to get the SIM module replaced. I placed a small piece of card stock, cut to shape, over the back of the SIM to provide a little extra thickness and this resolved the issue on one of my N78-3 devices. I shipped it off anyway because I'm not into "duct tape and bailing wire" solutions to get new phones to work.

here are the instructions on how to unlock your phone.

1 - Switch on your Nokia N900 without any sim card.
2 - Don't bother as to what is displayed on your Nokia N900.
3 - Compose #pw+CODE+7#.
4 - The Nokia N900 would then display the message "SIM Restriction Off" and will be unlocked!

The letter p appears if you press the button star(*) three times quickly
The letter w appears if you press the button star(*) four times quickly
The symbol + appears if you press the button star(*) two times quickly
The CODE you need to enter is the unique unlock code for your Nokia N900

if you have any doubts in these instructions you can get the instrutions from this site http://www.mobileunlockguide.com/nokia-n900
