Since the files can be played via the browser's flash plug-in, they should AT LEAST be able to be associated there.

If there's no current maemo bug for this, I'm opening one.

Theoretically you should be able to do it by editing the /usr/share/applications/hildon/mplayer.desktop file, but I've never been able to get it to work. Mplayer launches and then quits after a few seconds.

I tried to open the .flv files with the browser but it says unsupported format. Do I need to modify an opera setting?

I haven't been able to do it either, surf. I'm just saying I think we *should* be able to.

have you tried browsing the file system from browser using url of :
file:///

Then browse to the flash files.

Not sure if browser accepts command line parameters which i think would be necessary for (successfully) associating file types with it.

I tried that but the browser says it is an unknown format.

Isnt this a similar problem to:

http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=9349

Where if the defaults.list file is properly configured it will open them in mplayer? I dont know for sure because I haven't been able to make that work with avi files, but I am probably doing something wrong.. Anyway, it seems a similar problem..
