I also tried Quickstarter in LXDE, and it indeed let me launch everything from the top panel, but when I then started OO from the regular menu, it first came with different theming than those I had selected, and at the second attempt, it did not start at all (from LXDE, no problem within debbie). Even disabling quickstarter (via debbie) and closechroot didn't help, and I had to reboot twice to have everything working again. (At the first reboot I had even Maemo malfunctioning, weird background and no menu - perhaps I'm seeing a hardware problem, though now it is OK again...)
I guess I have to the check the wiki more often!
I had installed the OO programs using synaptic which
recommends a few more programs than what is mentioned in the wiki.
I also installed a couple others. Not sure if they made any difference in
regards to the skewed banner. I can check.

Some other differences:
The OO banner now does not appear at all in LXDE.
OO writer now starts up in a little under 30 seconds using
Quickstarter. Took less time in an earlier version.
Now, takes about 45 seconds when I open OOwriter outside LXDE.

I've had no indication of Maemo malfunctioning. However, some strange things I see when starting up LXDE: the side panels initially flicker on and off a few times before finally becoming stable. I also sometimes get a different icon for home. (a folder or a house). The latter usually doesn't happen if I do a closeroot before restarting LXDE. The color theme is different when starting OO outside LXDE. Goes from a white (for LXDE) to a brown (outside LXDE).

Also, I opened and closed OOwriter 3 times (outside LXDE) without seeing any problem.

Since I haven't experienced any differences with the new version (avoiding quickstarter anyway from our previous experiences), I silently updated the wiki, and didn't also post here. Actually, I had noticed from the changelog that this new version should give an undistorted startup banner, but not even that was different for me. Funny that it is different for you. From the list of packages that a full install of openoffice.org would pull in I don't see any obvious candidate.

The problems with quickstarter occured for me only within LXDE, when I opened OO from the menu with the quickstarter shortcut already in the panel - outside LXDE, OO remained intact. So I just leave quickstarter disabled - since I'm usually running OO within debbie, I don't need it anyway.

I noticed that I have OO core and common installed. They are not included in the wiki. You might try
installing one or the other to see if the banner is no longer skewed.

On another note, have you ever tried LyX? If it is worth installing I'll have to find more room!

Hi,
I need help here,
I downloaded the image from this address :

http://qole.org/files/debian-m5-v3d.img.ext2.lzma

and put it in the mmc,
after running the deb img installer,
it says it's corrupted,

so i download it again and replace it,
but it still gives corrupted message,
and i can't download it from N900 directly because my connection is not too good.. It always got disconnected

So where can i get the image that is not corrupted?
thanks.

OO core and common are automatically included, the difference is mainky in the absence of java components, but it seems unlikely to me that they could make a difference wrt the banner.

Lyx I know, but I don't use it. If you want to try it but don't have enough spce in the image, you could consider using two images with different content!

Hey guys, I am a noob but I managed to install easy debian and everything.

Is it possible to install any other app?

For example, if I want to install google chrome, can I just go to the chrome download page and press install or will I run into dependency issues?

I am aware of the limitations of the processor

You have Synaptic Pkg Mg installed, it's on Maemo. Just go to it and search for Chromium.

For chromium-browser ("chromium" without -browser is a game), you will have to enable the squeeze repository (see the wiki for how to!), but then it should be available, since there is an armel version.

I'd be interested to hear how it works on Easy Debian.

Good point. I just bought a 16G memory card!

One more note in regards to the banner. If I disable Quickoffice the correct (unskewed) banner also appears in LXDE.

Openoffice has an extension you can install called writer2latex You can find it on squeeze or sid (another version on Lenny). but it is crashing OO when I use it in Debian. Has anyone had any luck getting it to work?

A working writer2latex is good in that it improves the portability of documents on different operating systems. Currently, openoffice seems to do a better job than other apps in reproducing documents that, in particular, have equations made with Word. For example Abiword, Freoffice, and Documents to Go Premium can have problems reproducing documents with something as simple as raising a variable to a power ( Documents to Go Premium did correctly recover the Navier Stokes equations so I was surprised when it failed in the former case). Anyways, no problem for OO. Actually, my preference is to use Latex as it is much easier and quicker for me. So writing or reading a document in OO and then exporting it as a Latex file could be quite useful. Going from Latex to Word is another issue!

Also, I installed writer2html and, well.., it at least did not crash OO.
