i have the wsod a lot of people seem to have experienced. mine came from expansys uk, have only had it 11 weeks.thing is, i called nokia uk and spoke to tech support, didn't tell them where i bought it and they offered to repair it via their freepost. i also called expansys and they explained there is a chance nokia may refuse to repair it and just return it to me.obviously ,expsys, have offered to repair it. i have this vision of when my nokia 770 reaches expansys in manchester, somebody will stick an address sticker on it and it will wing itself across the ocean to the states for its repair.,hence the return time of approx 1 month! do you think its worth chancing it wiyh nokia? i may just get away with it. does anybody have any ideas or similar experience? i find this issue with the warranty thing a bit ridiculous!
thanx.

I had to send my N800 to Nokia UK for repair - they picked it up from my home address free of charge, which was nice - but it still took 5 weeks to be returned. The 1 month repair time isn't because it's being sent half way around the world, it's because the Nokia repair centre in the UK is bl00dy slow.

I'd send it to Nokia direct (have them pick it up!) and if they refuse to repair it remind them of their obligations under the Sale of Goods Act, mention having a word with your local Trading Standards office etc. - the WSOD is a known design fault, and as such it should be covered even outside of any warranty period.

If the repair center asks you for an IMEI number, quote your WiFi MAC address. When boxing up your 770, send only the device body and do NOT include the battery, battery cover, memory card, stylus or desk stand - keep these back as Nokia will not return them to you.

i am FURIOUS! expansys are now refusing to repair or replace it! only a refund and i have 7 days to send it back,at my own bloody expense!
also called nokia, and they say they are under no legal obligation to fix it because of warranty nonsense!
i will try again, dont wish to sound stupid but quoting my mac address, do you mean the one associated with my router? i could go thru the process of returning it ,but there is the poss of nokia returning it unrepaired as i have read on other int boards.
JESUS! I AM ANGRY!!!!
this calls for some serious phoning in morning, to nokia, every bloody no i can pull off their website inc FINLAND!
sorry to rant a bit.

Yes, the WiFi MAC address associated with your router. It's also printed on a sticker in the battery bay of the 770.

I'm not surprised Expansys will only offer you a refund, it seems they have sourced the devices from another region (supplies of which are now exhausted) and it's also why Nokia are attempting to refuse to honour the warranty. For a Global organisation to try this trick is utter ********, particularly when the problem you are experiencing is due to a well known design flaw - can't Nokia see how easily they can lose customers forever with this sh1tty attitude? I might have a little - but not much - more sympathy for Nokia if the fault were due to something unrelated to the design flaw, but since it's their mistake they should just deal with it, end of story - and since it's a design flaw it's not covered by the normal limited warranty period either (ie. Nokia should be liable to provide repairs beyond the normal 12 month warranty period).

If you get no satisfaction from Nokia, as a last resort I would discuss the issue with your local Trading Standards office or Citizens Advice Bureau as I can't see how Nokia have a leg to stand on where a fault due to a design flaw is concerned.

When I needed my N800 repaired (dodgey touchscreen) I contacted the Nokia Helpdesk by email (via nokia.com) who arranged for my device to be picked up from my home, which was nice, but then Nokia washed their hands of all subsequent involvement leaving it up to me to find out where it had been sent and to chase up on a regular basis which was less than impressive - Nokia are not geared up for dealing with individuals, only the trade ie. phone repairs through dealerships and service providers.

My device ended up going to a repair outfit called Communicade Ltd. in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire PE29 6FN, telephone 01480 431 431. I'm not suggesting you send yours to them direct (as they almost certainly won't accept it without prior Nokia authorisation) but if Nokia do take your 770 in for repair that's probably where it will end up. Since you probably won't get a tracking reference from Nokia (I didn't) the only way to find your 770 within the Communicade system is to quote the "IMEI" number for your device, which in the case of a Nokia Internet Tablet is the WiFi MAC address.

Do keep us informed of how you get on!

Take the refund back and buy a new n800 for 100$ more. With the new os coming it is well worth it rather than having to live without your tablet for more than one month. I am sure with the new 0s 770 will be more forgotten and its value will far depreciate. And n800 is really worth the 100$ upgrade. Believe me

millhouse, thanx for your advice! i have a result! friday am,called exps and spoke to a salesperson, explained the situ.he promised someone will call back and discuss.the following 2 hrs were spent investigating various nokia no's and not getting anywhere. i mean one of the no's on nokias website was answered with ,hello, marks motors here, can i help!!!!!! another no was completely dead!spoke to trading standards and received some advice, not being fit for purpose etc, some help, usefull but not exactly legal sledgehammer stuff.
anyway, called expansys again, spoke to a woman and told her i definitely did not want a refund, she says there are no more in stock, i replied as expansys are so bloody huge and global, i think you should get me one! I WANT A REPLACEMENT! i was adamant. she puts me on hold after muttering somethin bout returns manager, one piped stevie wonder song followed by lionel ritchie and she says they will supply a replacement! are you sure i say, yes! she says, somebody will be in touch!
so i have a satisfactory outcome.just have to box up and return the original one and maybe i will receive one in return!
although before i return it i will give em a call just to verify!
what a crappy exp! why don't these companies treat us consumers with more respect! to be honest, expansys i think have acted ok. its nokia, who ought to get their act together, especially on the cust svs front! so i will let you know if i receive my 770. cheers again.

sachin, i kind of agree and disagree. i mean i only paid under $150 for the 770 and while it was working i was knocked out with it and its capabilites. even my partner says its the best and most practical device i've ever bought! she loved using it. i was tempted by the 800 at its new price, but if i get my replacement 770 i will be very happy.although if there are any more reductions on the 800 front i will end up getting one as well!
cheers!

One word of warning, it's possible (though hopefully unlikely) that you might experience the WSOD with your replacement - fingers crossed you don't!

well, i have my 770 returned by expansys! as advised by exps ,i packed up my unresponsive tablet and sent it tuesday by special delivery. received the replacement thurs morning! quite a fast turnaround. trouble is, it was returned in my original box with a secondhand battery all scratched and no adaptors to plug into mains. put the battery in and seems to be working ok.the new one ,seems to be just that, brand new. thing is they said on friday they definately don't have any more! they seem to have got one pretty quick for me! am awaiting response about adaptors and poss refund of the return.don't see why i should be out of pocket.
hope this one lasts. i was wondering if one reason it developed wsod, maybe because in my attempts to reinstall ukmp, which wouldn't install i tried the red pill mode. then it seemed to have every bloody application that was devised for the thing installed! don't know how that one happened! think i'll just take it easy and use it what it was designed for in the first place as a good portable web browser until i learn stuff.
i'll be keeping an eye out for reductions of the 800, i am sure before xmas, what with iphone coming out we will see the 800 below £130.
cheers.
