So now I have been looking more closely at the problem causing the device to become unresponsive. I have located a memory management problem in the openspotify library used by QSpot; this problem can lead to the device eventually running out of memory after some time of playback.

I have now fixed this particular problem, and an updated version of the library is available from the extras-devel repository (as well as from the project garage page). The new version is 20101221-1 and it can be installed for use with the current QSpot version from the x-terminal (as root):

apt-get update
apt-get install libopenspotify

Hopefully this fix will have an impact on the responsiveness issues..

Will you release an updated QSpot with the newer library integrated anytime soon?

I'm running qspot 5 hours now on 3G and its not become unresponsive. Im not using power kernel. Using the latest Qspot version.

dont see any reason to update the lib any reason for me to do so?

In case it seems to work ok for you then I do not see any reason for immediate update; however I will put out an updated QSpot version (possible today or tomorrow), and the new version will depend on the updated library.

Also, I don't know whether anyone else has mentioned it but would not a better default behaviour at start to be to automatically log on if you have chosen to store your credentials, and stash the login details in preferences?

The current behaviour is a bit like the Nokia lock screen which spends a couple of seconds telling you that you've unlocked the screen

That was a good point, I could change the login behaviour in a later QSpot update..

QSpot version 0.2.1-1 is now available from extras-devel and from the garage page.. Changes are as follows:

* Updated libopenspotify dependency.
* Modified Now Playing handling; when a track is selected for playback from a playlist, all the tracks from the playlist is moved to Now Playing (and the selected track is activated).
* Modified Artist View handling; albums are now sorted under categories 'Albums' (the browsed artist's albums and singles) and 'Appears on' (all other albums on which the browsed artist appears on).

ok ... so my 2 secs feedback:

Playlists: work better, I get more playlists, but do get a timeout from time to time (what about running that process in the background?)

It seems to me though that I get more segfaults when switching between tracks. Not 100% sure though, might just be because I skip more.
