Hmmm... Perhaps just variable communications issues with Spotify. The ongoing problem does make it borderline unusable though as I keep having to relaunch it again and again until at least a relevant part of my playlists manages to appear, although I'm still plugging away with QSpot whenver possible, rather than turning to the Touch/iPhone.

Also, I understand it may not be a priority but can something be done about the relatively high battery suckage? In use it appears that QSpot only uses marginally more CPU percentage than Media Player... but Media Player can play overnight and the N900 can still have 50% charge remaining, while with QSpot that will totally kill the battery well before the morning.

It is probably related to temporary communication problems (timeouts) while communicating with the Spotify servers (and it seems that in the past few months the problems have started to occur more frequently).

I need to see what can be done about the battery usage; most probably it will again require optimizations / fixes to the library. It is however clear that being in online (connected) state all the time while the app is running will consume battery; this is again due to QSpot only supporting online mode (the official clients can of course save battery by providing the offline playlists support). Also use of high bitrate streaming will require more CPU usage.

Yeah - I realise there's not that many places you can streamline given the limitations of a non-official client. As I said, I didn't expect it to be a priority. Would be nice though if you can eke out some power saving.

A few other things have struck me while using QSpot quite heavily over the Christmas period - I don't know how much of this would be tied to limitations of libopenspotify. Sorry if any of these have been mentioned already:

- Possible to be able to edit playlists on-unit? Edit tracks in playlists (which the official client can) or even whole individual playlists? (which the official client doesn't seem to be able to do, and a feature I'd really like)

- Is it possible to grab the What's New pages like the official clients?

- Related Artists is a feature I really like on the desktop clients. Any chance of it happening on QSpot?

- Some sort of independent resume within playlists possible? (i.e. QSpot keeps track of where you left off in a track in any given playlist)

- Search history would be nice.

I hope that at least the playlist loading problem can be solved soon. Functions like search history and related artists should be possible to implement in a future version (already supported by the library). The What's New and playlist editing / creation functionality will require additions to the library, but it could definitely be investigated. It would be convienient in case playlists could be edited on the device itself. Thanks for the feedback!

Indeed. As I said earlier, the official (i.e. iPhone) client can edit tracks within a playlist, but I can't seem to manipulate playlists themselves. For me for example since I playlist albums for the most part, it would be really good to be able to delete playlists when I'm done listening to an album.

One other thing: Volume controls don't work while the screen is blanked. Media Player behaviour is that the volume controls work while the screen is inactive.

Happy New Year, and keep up the good work!

It is true that the volume controls do not work when screen is off; for this to work I will need to modify the audio handling part in QSpot (as I am not using playback via Mafw). It could be added to the todo list however..

A really Happy New Year, and thanks for all the helpful feedback!

Hey,

first off, happy new year all!

I added a "bug" (maybe move it to Feature Requests?) ... Portrait Mode. It would be great to have it, especially with longer playlists, it would make it easier to scroll through the amount of tracks.

Greets,

Florian

What is the implication of changing audio to Mafw (apart from enabling volume control when screen locked)?

I find the N900 audio frustratingly obtuse at times, although it appears to be very powerful on paper. High-bitrate FLACs sound 'off' although they play, there appears to be distortion in Media Player audio at times, and there's occasional channel-swapping (once again in Media Player) for what appears to be no good reason - which also affects QSpot.

Thanks, a happy new year to you as well! Actually, portrait mode is under development, and should be part of the next QSpot version..
