Can you not just buy a new back cover. You can get one for less than $10 on Ebay. Must be better than going through this much trouble.

so i've been reading about the host of problems that have been caused by loose/missing magnets on the back cover of the n900.
i've been having a problem that nobody has addressed before. i know that the sensor is effed on my n900, so i use a little script using gconftool. it sets these values manually:
internal-mmc-device-present (true)
mmc-cover-open (false)
internal-mmc-cover-open (false)
mmc-device-present (true)
this has helped bring back the functionality of the camera lens cover, but nothing as far as the memory card slot.
but i have a more fundamental problem in that in /dev, there is no entry for the memory card. there is only mmcblk0 and its associated mmcblk0p1..p3 which represent the emmc. as such, there are no messages in dmesg in regards to anything mmc. also, i obviously can't manually mount the device as it's not even present.
does anyone have any idea of what i can do to fix this? any help would be much appreciated.
