Hopefully, since elop is basically shutting down the whole department, a leak of source code (for the closed bits) *hint* *hint* will happen soon.
Not that it's truly necessary.. it's not like we didn't reverse most of winCE to get Linux on HTC.
But... yeah, it'd help save time.

You paid for support when you bought the phone basically - otherwise, it should have had a "as-is" sticker on it.

Regardless, you do know that there are very important bits of Maemo 5 that are closed source, Nokia hasn't released them and they are in potentially in need of repair in the near future and/or updates by other bits might disrupt the BME, et al

How do you support closed source software besides reverse engineering or intelligent engineering like some of the stuff Qwerty12 had done around the music player or root.

Most Maemo haters are really just linux lovers who hate how Nokia treated the os.

Truer words have never been written here in all these years.

196 posts, for what was perhaps a legitimate question, seriously asked.

By my count most of the posts are really in defense of the N900, and why you can't hate it, and if you do, why you shouldn't use the N900 and should get an android/iphone instead.

There are even quite a few posts which are just fanboys trolling in what should have been a serious thread.

Clearly, there majority of people here (TMO) believe the N900 is beyond reproach. In other words, most of the folks here are more likely to jump in and defend the N900 rather than listen to reasonable arguments that to some people the N900 may have some flaws.

Therefore, I move to have the thread closed.

But if you enable repos like maemo.org, -testing, -dev then there's more than enough Apps to choose from.

On my N900 for games I have; Angry Birds, Asphalt5, Jurassic Coaster 3D, Descent, DRIVER, SNES Emulator, Duke Nukem 3D, Giant Fighting Robots, Hexen 2, NES emulator, Jagged Alliance, Kroll, N64 Emulator, Need for Speed, Numpty Physics, Oregon Trail, PS2 Emulator (EDIT: Meant to saw PS1), Doom, Quake 2, Quake 3, Lamar Research Flight Simulators, Starcraft, Warcraft II, TuxRace, Wallenstein 3D (I left out the boring ones like chess)

I also have 2 dictionary applications, 2 translator applications, and as stellerium program for references.

As for graphics, I can view RAR photos, I have numerous excellent image editors (including GIMP), and even the pressure sensitive mypaint.

I have numerous navigation programs, and if I want to use Google maps I just go to the Google maps web site.

I find the camera to be great for a cell phone, and I also have 2 panoramic photo applications (one was free). With FCam it is very easy for me to adjust the camera settings.

Network options are ridiculous; VNC servers and (numerous) clients, Google Chrome, Firefox, Iceweasel, Macuco, Opera, Pidgin, 2 BitTorrent clients, the list can go on and on.

For office type applications I have K Office, Open Office, PFD editor and reader, AbiWord, Gnumeric for spreadsheets, I can't think of anything more I would need.

I have so many system info apps and other utilities it is crazy!

And on top of that I have DOSBox, BlueMaemo, and Debian LXDE? And if that's not enough I can dual boot into (admittedly) slower version of NITDroid.

I don't understand what more someone would want... can anyone explain?
the thing i hate most about my n900 is the arbitary manner in which an application will install............. or choose not to install.

On a bog standard PR 1.3 device why can i not expect Warmux to install perfectly, without coming up with some stupid error message regarding a missing SDL package?

This isn't a dig at warmux, as i believe it is depending on a package that correctly expects to be there.

Well i think the N900 is a real piece of shite but i wouldnt sell it just to please Nokia and besides... Nokia made it that way !!!.

It has its flaws granted but i hate its OS really, not the device.

Yes, bring in one of the silliest human inventions that has ever been passed as "science"
Put people in neat little boxes with names on them, based on vague understanding of a system that is innately too complex to be fully understood.

Sorry, your statements are all wrong; not everyone started out by spamming forums, most of us actually bothered to read the available literature before posting/asking anything.

Fact is, someone has to keep the sound to noise ratio down. Which is pretty bad here for a technical forum.
There are usually a majority of clever readers and posters, but it's always the bad posts that try to take most space.

Asking people to show some courtesy is not elitism.
But of course, from the point of view of the person being told off, they're being "bullied". so sad.
