i don't think you have been paying attention to this thread since all importent info is in the 3 first post.....

hmmm where to begin..... and this is really not to be rude......
First it's mAh not MHz, one is battery capacity, other is processor speed......
The Very old samsung you refer to have:
A small screen
A "Slow" Cpu
Limited connectivity (you are not going to browse as much net as on the N900 or other smartphones)
These are just some of the factors that makes your samsung live that long on a charge.

Now your samsung has 2000mAh battery, mine because of the homemade battery has 2763mAh, so no the battery in the samsung will not do better than that, and will be next to impossible and not worth the trouble to fit in the phone.

my usb connector has just broken, I now have an external charger. Is it possible to do a hack like in the first post, by running the positive and negative connection from the external charger, through the phone, directly to the battery. Whilst the phone is still powered on. Saves the need to swap batteries if this could be done.

Basically:

External charger ->
battery positive and battery negative whilst still plugged into phone and powered on.
Will need to hack a hole in the back cover and connect a 2mm charger port possibly.

Seems very similar to the first post, except i cant see if having that kind of setup negates the need to use the usb charger.

OR. Can I completely ditch going via the external charger, and plug a 2mm charger directly to the battery positive and negative?

I did a little price comparison of power batteries and stumbled upon this: http://www.akkukauppa.com/nokia-5800...-2800-mah.html
Since N900 and 5800 uses the same battery, i thought of buying that one instead of Mugen 2400mAh battery witch costs 95$ (69€)
With doing so i get 400mAh extra for half the price but i have to order mugen battery cover or make a little something from my spare back cover.

First:
Do you have a dual battery/mugen battery & XL cover, it will be next to impossible to fit even to very small 2mm plug base in the N900 without some room in the back?

Second:
I use my USB max a couple of times a month, and it is only for data transfer, i charge up doing the day instead of overnight, but it is not hard to use a "basic" charger and have it plugged in all night, it is of course not good for the battery to do a float charge.....

as you can see in Post #2 the 2mm plug is connected to the battery directly, in between the battery's and circuit

And because of this im probably the last one to experience broken USB port

Look at the pins and look at your N900 and see if you could get it to fit....

Ah, you are absolutely right. I did not remember that on 5800 the battery goes pin side up, i had to check it from my ex 5800.

it's ok, it's a common mistake, because we know the the BL-5J is used for a whole range of phones, it would be nice it they did fit, a cheaper option.
Until then the only cheaper option is to make it your self like my dual battery.

I have been using my dual japod for 2.5 months now with no problems

I don't have the case yet.... still weighing up my options.

So connecting the 2mm plug which outputs 5v... directly to the battery (which is only 3.7v) along with the phone circuitry, isnt going to ruin anything or cause overvoltage damage? I could also go from my external battery charger with wires to the same battery/circuitry connections....

my charger puts in 4.23V not 5V, putting 5V in will eventually damage the battery and possible make it vent with or without fire = literally toast N900

A LiPo battery should be charged with between 4.15 - 4.23V.

I only use the 2mm plug system, it is not connected to a normal nokia charger, but it is connected to a LiPo charger, and depending on the mood i have 6 different chargers to choose from, all battery test are of course done with 1 only

ah ok that makes more sense then. Are you able to operate the phone whilst it is charging?

edit: lipo charger? The same as a li-ion charger thats commonly available for the n900?
