its at the app page in HAm now but when i go to catalogues it says checking for updates and when that goes way thn its just a black bar with a circular rotating loading icon

for checking if your error message is stuck .
If you continously get the same error
just try to install any small package
then
try to remove any small package.

if the message appears even with package not associated with it then just reboot.
and use apt-get autoremove to remove broken and useless packages.

HAM is slow. Just leave it like that it will show after few minutes.Mine have few repos so mine loads in less than a minute

list which repos i should enable please. there are 2 extras devel, 1 of them has no distribution and also do i keep the ovi repo enabled

i have done and on x-terminal it still comes up with unmet dependencies

do
apt-get autoremove

if you still get unmet dependencies.Then reboot
and try again
