I think this could even be spun well for marketing purposes.

"The Nokia Avata... so open, the community even named it. Come feel what real mobile freedom can be."
Even I like Avata for it being also close to the Sanskrit word "Avatar" which in English means "incarnation". Maemo & Nokia re-incarnated!

I'm seeing a community branding movement =P

Even if Nokia releases it as N-12489238, it'll be known to the community as Avata-01. There'll be custom theme, desktop background and optional stickers to convert your N-98349237492 to a proper Avata-01

'Touch' is the wrong angle for Nokia, as it's been pretty much cornered by Apple...

IMHO the name should emphasize the device's openness, versatility and flexibility.
For OPEN someone proposed AVATA ("to open" in Finnish)

CONFLEX, NEXUS or FLEX were also good proposals.

From Eldar's review it is clear N900 is on par wit iPhone for the touch, so they can use the world "TOUCH" in Latin, Italian, Spanish or Finnish (a short and catchy word).

TOUCH in Spanish: TACTO, AMAGO, NEXO
TOUCH in Italian: TASTO,
TOUCH in Finnish: OSUMA, TUNTO, TAPA

A good option would be "CONTACT".

Oh, people would remember the qolerat. It spams you with random bad puns and parodies right in the middle of important usage.

Blade Runner? Star Trek?? I tought it was a Henry Miller reference!

I was already imagining Paris Hilton doing the advertisement for the next device, the Nokia Sexus!...
