There was a Nokia speaker in front and then a slide projected in the background with few boxes. One of them mentioned "commitment to open source", or something similar. It was a developer oriented session, but I can't recall which one and nor even the speaker.........

Because the X3 costs about 110 euros unlocked, compared to 500 euros unlocked for the N900 and 250 euros unlocked for the 5800.
It's to expand the price range basically, it's meant for people who cannot afford a smartphone.
That will change as S60 gets cheaper, but at the moment S40 is still the cheapest hardware.
