Haven't played with this, but like at the "nice" value for the renderer plugin in:

/etc/X11/Xsession.post/32mafw

Code:
#!/bin/sh

if test -x /usr/sbin/dsmetool; then
	for plugin in /usr/lib/mafw-plugin/*.so; do
		# For uninstall to work, we must start them using just the
		# basename without '.so'.
		plugin="${plugin##*/}";
		plugin="${plugin%.so}";
                nice="";
                if test "x$plugin" = "xmafw-gst-renderer"; then
                    # Run the renderer with a nice value
                    nice="-7";
                fi
		sudo /usr/bin/mafw.sh start "$plugin" $nice &
        done
fi

I thought I read the GPU in the iPhone 3GS is actually a bit better than the one in the N900, isn't it?

My understanding from what I read is, clock speeds being equal, the 3GS GPU can render twice as many rectangles per second than the n900 GPU, but Apple has the 3GS GPU running at 1/4 the clock speed of the n900 GPU. Thus, the n900 GPU is twice as fast as the 3GS GPU under default conditions.

I'm always amazed at how some people see the name of a technology (the meaning of which they don't know and don't care about), and they somehow think that it would solve all the problems with a product that they have.

OK.
In short words, V-Sync is a simple technique that makes the video card in your PC only render as many frames per second as your display can refresh itself.

By the way, I don't have any problems with scrolling on the N900's browser. It's a little annoying when you have to wait a second for it to render the area you've scrolled to, but it is still enjoyable for a mobile device.

ive never been interested in ANY apple product, but i played around the menus only in an iphone last year..
apart from the screen responsiveness, i cant see any reason why anyone would ever want to buy one..

anyway, the iphone doesnt support multitasking.. does that mean the user cant listen to music while surfing the net??
or if he/she is using satnav and receives a call, does he/she have to end the call before resuming with his navigation??
btw i know what multitasking is.... but thats rili stupid if thats not possible on the iphone.... :-L

You can play music while surfing the net fine on iPhone 3GS but the real multi-tasking is opening more applications like "Accelerometer, compass...etc" while watching Youtube and browsing the net at the same time won't work on iPhone. But there is an App that allowing fake multi-tasking.

Which meant you can't do two things at the same time like the N900 can. Music, Web, and other Apple software will works together but the 3rd party won't.

Nokia should cut the resolution in half *when* they do transitions on screen, anyway when the image/web page is moving nobody reads the content.

Scrolling is where Maemo fails,other than that,the fluidity of the OS isnt rly that bad.The other thing that really pisses me off is the device being unable to render the graphics on the phone properly.Its a hot device anyway,but with a little bit more support Nokia can wipe the iPhone out.

my two cents.

IF YOU OWN A JAILBROKEN IPHONE 3GS and install ProSwitcher the iphone is still very very fast as usual

ProSwitcher is an app which runs very similar to the way the N900 multitasks. Even with heavy games and heavy apps running in the background the iphone still doesn’t lag. Proswitcher app is being promoted as not slowing down the phone. By the way the iphone only has 256mb of ram with no page file

There is something nokia need to figure out to optimize the n900. The device is very very capable to run smooth but the UI needs a bit of work. Well at least the 4 desktops run well when panning. Give it time guys well get there. Well Hopefully :S

Well hopefully the infamous 1.2 firmware brings us something to be happy about ^^.
