Marxian reported earlier in the thread that dynamic updating of .desktop files requires root access... Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this feature is not coming and you will have to manage this manually by putting NotShowIn=X-MeeGo; in the .desktop files you want to hide from the main app screen ... which is why the latest version displays icons in the add-icon view even when those icons have that line in their .desktop files... which is why in that view you see lots of extra 'apps' that you might not have realised were 'installed'.

Note that (as I am aware) this app is intended to be a stopgap measure before PR1.2 is released.. it was not intended to provide a fully-featured folder capability, which is why (I think) some features won't be added. Fortunately though there are features you can add manually. But perhaps Marxian has figured out a way to add the hide feature and will be adding it, I am not completely sure about this.

Go to usr/share/applications/, add that line to every desktop file, to hide the icon?

Not only can you just swipe it away, but the swipe provides its own transitions effect. With the button you get none, and having the button adds some extra code and therefore makes the loading of each folder potentially slightly slower. This is my understanding anyway. See earlier comments in the thread.

There is a school of thought that buttons are a bad thing in the N9 UI. Nokia has buttons here and there, but potentially could have done without any at all.

You need to be root in /usr/share/applications, and user in /home/user/.local/share/applications
