I tried directing it back to the same file (as in > transitions.ini rather than > tmpFile) but transitions.ini came out blank. It's a weird sed thing afaik.

And no it does work, forcerotation doesn't require you to restart hildon-desktop.

The only problem I have is getting it working with queen beecon - you need root access and I don't know how to get beecon to do that. I used to be able to use sudo with it, but not anymore.

You want sed's in-place option

Cheers

Code:
sed -i -e 's/forcerotation=0/tmpstr/' -e 's/forcerotation=1/forcerotation=0/' -e 's/tmpstr/forcerotation=1/' /usr/share/hildon-desktop/transitions.ini

Settings in transitions.ini appear to be sensitive to white space.

If you have tried everything and it still doesn't work make sure you don't have any trailing spaces.

I had a trailing space after:

forceration = 1

Forced rotation didn't work until I removed it.

I'm wondering the same, are there any plans on de-stoneageing the base system ? It's a pain to try to port something when "everything" tracks more or less upstream development/stable releases and maemo is 2-4 years behind.

As Nokia hacked on gtk directly getting that updated is a pain I get that one. But what about glib+gio, gvfs, cairo and pixman (arm opts going in lately) ?

Fix it at last by reinstalling MohammedAG's Deb file from a few nights posts ago. I assume theme customizer may of been the culprit after all, any idea if the developer is working on a fix?

Yeah, because Theme Customizer's uninstall script restored the original PR1.3 hildon-home...

Try this in terminal (rootsh must be installed):
sudo gainroot
apt-get install --reinstall hildon-home

Pushed version 12.5 to the repo.
Changelog:
* Added parallax (to transitions.ini) and zoom on press to hildon-desktop.
* Fixed modest's New Message button.
* Forced hildon-home's maximum number of desktops to 9.
* Minor UI change for libcpaboutcssu.

To get the changes for hildon-desktop, just edit traisitions.ini
New lines here for those who want to append the changes: http://gitorious.org/community-ssu/h...ons.ini#line43

Second change is to prepare modest for proper portrait mode.
Third one's for the issue some of you have been getting in this thread.

Just one question, what do you think of the rate of updates?

Right now Theme Customizer conflicts with CSSU hildon-home. I'll fix it when CSSU will include hildon-home that supports resizing desktop shortcuts. This is probably done when ever I find time to post patch suggestion to the bugtracker of CSSU...
