Dbuur : the other threads points to the same problems, and you still face them : /
something must be wrong in the middle way : /
We have been talking with some people with the same problems and at least the final thing : the install / unninstall completely throught apt solves it.
A note : Installing and unninstalling using the application manager DOESN'T solve the problem, because the application manager gets lost with the error.
But as you said, you have done a completely unninstall (with APT as root) and still have the same problem) we just have one last solution.
If you have an IP, we can try connecting remotly to your 770 and installing for you.
That's the last thing that we can do.

@Commsman
My advice would be : use Canola-tuning, it will create the folders for you download some covers that you may not want.. then you just move the good ones of you =)

I am a bit of a noob so sorry for the dumb question, but how can I easily copy these covers into a folder C2 will see? I can access my N800 using SSH - so a simple copy command would be good.
Would it by any chance be somehing like
cp /media/mmc1/covers/*.* ~/.canola/covers
(this does not work - so although the C2 covers directory is stated above to be ~/.canola/covers I don't understand enough about Linux file / directory / command conventions to understand where I am going wrong!)
Cheers
J
