You might be amazed at what deals one can find on the grey market.

I'm with you dude. What ever market that was there for iPhones has been filled by iPhones. A good deal of initial sales were to previous owners of Motorola Razors. Another fashion phone.
Productivity was not on the top of these peoples list of priorities. It still isn't. If it were there would be an outcry for multi-tasking from current iPhone owners.

There isn't because it's better to look good than to feel good. When you're talking on an iPhone or single handed thumb texting as you breese through an airport you look marvelous...
Standing off to the side two handed texting in landscape mode while holding your carry-on bag between your knees, not so much.

Nokia have stated that the preferred way of developing symbian apps is to use qt. hopefully if that becomes the defacto standard and all the best symbian apps are converted over, hopefully we'll get a good selection of apps to run on qt/maemo.

where I work we've had to put some gifted people into the process of automating analysis of websites to see if they're small-screen friendly (iphone, smartphone etc), and even then it's hit and miss and needs live humans to review the results.

there are far too many organisations which think a simple custom CSS style, or a custom skin for a forum, wiki etc, is sufficient to make it mobile friendly.

however, it is getting better. I've seen the stats.

PAYG in USA is not the same as PAYG in UK - they're at least 5 years behind UK in the business model. We in UK have non-expiring credit, usually flat rate call charges, free voicemail, with good 3G coverage. You can even buy a day's 3G data usage for reasonable price!

In USA the last time I visited I bought a T-Mobe sim where credit expired, the cost of calls varied according to how much credit you bought, data charges weren't cheap.

Also, of course, in USA to pay to receive calls and you get a regular number, in UK the caller pays and knows it's a mobile call because the number is clearly different; receiving calls is free as is receiving SMS.

Coming from an N800 that doesn't have it I didn't think to look when I got an N810.

You're right it sure is there. Cool! Where are all the apps and the exclusive Nokia Nseries content.??

It shouldn't take long to convert both of them.

We already have a real putty (and it's kinda redundant on maemo anyway), but what's the other one?
