Never have used an Android device -- how is its search widget designed?

I wanted to design TouchSearch like that when I started, but it is impossible. Desktop widgets cannot have data entered directly into them via the keyboard -- this is a limitation of the device operating software. Unfortunately there is no way to work around this, and that led me to having the separate dialog to actually enter the query.

I want to let everyone know that I have promoted the newest version (3.2-3) of TS to extras-testing.

Here is the official changelog:

* Changed: "Create engine" dialog to stay open after error
* Changed: Favorites button in Setting dialog to expand only to allocation size

I know, not much, just fixing a couple nagging bugs. If it is working well for you, please vote for it on its testing page here so I can push it to Extras.

Thanks.

Erm, sticky-notes uses a workaround for achieving this. It might be harder to use the data, as well as capture distinct keystrokes, such as a carriage return - but it's possible to overlay on the desktop and make it appear as a widget.

Either way, I think TS is just perfect the way it is.

If it were possible to have multiple widgets, that would shorten some things, I could have one for Google, one for Wikipedia, e.g. OTOH, the widget itself could have the buttons, like the top bar in the search dialog. Then one could tap-type, instead of tap, type, tap, enter.

You know, in case you are out of ideas.
