I am unsure if it is related to kbd but, how to improve the prediction with letters with accented characters, like in French... I remember reading that PR1.3 was much worse compared to PR1.2 (N9). I also agreed at that time, however it starts to piss me off now...

I am trying to add a new layout, but it doesn't work.

I copied .xml files to /home/user/.config/meego-keyboard/layouts/, but the new layout didn't make an appearance in settings -> time & language -> text input.

Then using developer mode I copied both files /usr/share/meegotouch/virtual-keyboard/layouts/. Still, no new layout observed.

What am I missing?

I am using N9 PR1.3.

The new layouts should be visible there after copying the files. If the text input settings menu was already open before copying, you have to close and reopen it to refresh the list, though.

Where your XML files are coming from? Have you hacked them by yourself or have you downloaded them from somewhere? If the layout files have some syntax errors, then the files are ignored and not visible in the list. So you if you have modified the files yourself, it's better to check if there are some problems in the XML code.

I would like to replace lower case letters by upper case letters on the keyboard (to me the shift key pressed is enough).

Now I see it is impossible to achieve rewriting css file. Presumably, I need a special font for the keyboard then? (according to refman.pdf, "when the action is insert, the key label determines the character inserted".) Or the font also won't help?

Or maybe there is a well known keyboard layout without lower-case label already?

impossible to have lower case with CAPS ON and capitals only with simple shift.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear.

I would like to have only upper-case letters on keyboard labels. It is just better for the eyes. It seems to me that any capitalized font can resolve the problem.

oh, if you mean only what is on label, I think that should not be a problem at all. Should be able to fix it.
