And again--what makes THIS device any better than anyone else's, then? The openness is hardly an advantage here. It's hardly any more open than Android, given the closed video drivers and apps--at least even the system apps and launcher are easily replaceable without being forced to HAVE to use any closed apps, all without ruining the system unlike Maemo so far. I'd like to see if this Harmattan in-between Maemo and MeeGo abomination is any better.
I have been reading your posts in my absence and i am at a loss as to why you seem so angry and bitter, i love your posts in general but i feel your going a bit OTT at the moment so can we have the old danramos back ?

Whoah, now that Dan, Gerbick and Abill are there, only one question remains.

Where is ericsson, so that we can at last enjoy some epic trolling action here?!?

Don't worry about that; he's just substituting for you. But now that we have the original back among us, everything will be back to NORMAL

google for Nokia N9 (RM-696) L1L2 Service Manual or look here http://www.cpkb.org/wiki/Nokia_N9_service_manual

Am going to download this and have a look because i do not see how a service manual can be leaked before release but hey many weird things are happening right now with Nokia.

elop managed to kill all nokia markets. wp7 is failing.

if n9 doesnt pull, nokia will need to make android devices.
This article just highlights even more why Nokia SRSLY needs Alien Dalvik integrated.
And why they need to plug it heavily as a stand-out feature, however counter-intuitive that may seem initially.

Google will prolly eventually block folks from using their already purchased apps in Alien? (the license prolly already explicitly denies it)
But there might be a long enough window for a decent amount of adventurous android users to switch or become "bi".
And even if Google legally stops Nokia from using AD, the community will keep using it, & circumventing blocks it initiates.

But sadly Elop would've have killed any attempt at moving in that direction many moons ago.
WP7x's the new golden goose (supposedly) now...

Does anyone know if there's something out there that's similar to alien dalvik, but open?
If there's something like it, we could look at integrating it into meego-core/harmattan?
I guess the best place to start would be here http://code.google.com/p/dalvik/

Thanks! I was a bit worried when I saw the "Camera removal tool SS-210", but you don't actually need it to change the battery.
Replacing the battery is largely feasible with good screw drivers and the 2c plastic bit to level up the screen. And a spare battery, of course. Doing it without scratching anything is harder

but that means that if I wet my phone, at least I'll be able to disconnect the battery. to let it dry.

I have to chime in with my opinion. I'm addressing the demand issue from general consumer point-of-view.

Ultimately Android doesn't sell because of openness, although indirectly it increases availability and competition, which means cheaper devices. iPhone sales aren't either hurt much by being not open, as long as the ecosystem offering is fruitful inside the garden walls. However, iOS users would like to be able to do more if the overall experience would be equally fun.

Currently, N9 and it's UX gives the best out-of-box experience of any smartphone; that sells. It's a perfect combination of well-thought-out design and open ecosystem, much like if Android and iOS had babies. The fact is that Android is a mess, and iOS is too restricted; people are tired and willing to switch.

Not according to the manual you dont, all you need to remove is the rubber boot from the front camera not the camera module.
