The only thing is that openssl has weak chipers, but it should be possible to update openssl not to the newest branch but at least to some more current version.

For Opera you need to disable ssl 3.0 tls 1.0. For that type opera:config and goto Security Prefs select as shown in the screenshot, save and restart.

Here the links to my posts related to certificates.

edit: I don't know if it is necessary but in addition to openssl_0.9.8k-8maemo7+dbg+0m6 I also installed openssl1 package (version 1.0.0c-5+0m7)

Somehow I missed this back then. Wheres my N9, have to give this a try. If there would be even passable internet usage it would be nice to try that old gem again. By far the best phone for my usage I have ever tried.

It was published not so long ago. I was not aware of the N9 problems, and when I recognized it, nobody uses the N9 anymore.
Anyway I had a look into it and the solution was quite straightforward. I published it but it is not well tested, but it only removes and adds certificates...

I have also a compiled openssl 0.9.8zh for N9 which on the first view seems to work.
But I don't have a clue about the role from openssl1 (v1.0.0) package. Until now I don't know if some package depends on it. But I guess it is there to compile new application against it, so you have two parallel openssl versions running. This means that old application will not profit from openssl1 package. And I don't know if a drop in replacement update will be possible like what was done with the N900.

@Maemish sorry can't help you really with N9 because I have not enough experience to give advices for this device. But what I remember what promissing was, is to flash the open mode kernel.

Really annoying was when you have a perfect setup and you restart the mobile and it says something like this "you have modified the device software..." and a reflash was needed.

But because I could not find the Opera Mini 8 packages I could not open any https site so no Maemo Talk either. Can't live without. My N900 looses the connection to sim all the time and no camera.
Here is my backup of Opera Mini ... Hope this help !

As i found out PhoneME java app only retains settings of a single app, so better not to try any other java app after using opera-mini-8.0.35626-advanced-en-us.jar or all saved bookmarks and speed dial will be deleted.

Also it is slow, and long press pops up meegos keyboard with no reason, which is annoying. But still, it could be helpful at times.

I have found firefox handy for few webages, for example, for checking gmail, though native email app still works for gmail if this howto is followed: https://medium.com/other-oses/awaken...e-a2dd596e540d

Native opera app for maemo.talk and linuxquestions.org.

Also, i have found few sites with the selection of n9 apps, sadly one of them, in poland, behind a paywall for apps over 1MB, but still i got phoneassist app from there which has 'vibrate when call is answered' feature.

Here are the links

good replacement calculator, scicalc:
https://allnokia.ru/symbsoft/moreinfo-6839.htm

I could upload all my apps into google drive and share a link here. Easy.

edit: Also, i suggest autolock app from the polish site, which locks the phone when proximity sensor is covered.

I'm not sure about the working state of these apps, most are just randomly collected from over the net, and from openrepos, also from the another persons googledrive posted here in talk.maemo somewhere. Debinstall app can show the description of installable deb file upon installing, comes handy.

With some of these, the n9 can still be quite functional in 2020.

whoa. i just found my modem failured N9. i wanted to test something and this little thing still powers up. sad that no way to fully place back on track this phone for daily use. so i just fired up and i wondered that freelancer devs still make updates for the N9. are there working IM's for this right now or WhatsApp/Skype/FB are dead forever? or maybe Telegram? my knowledge is a bit outdated about the community right now, so no clue any good happened meanwhile. and as i guess no working browser atm, right? :/

You can tinker with Opera Mobile as here:http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...47&postcount=8

Surprised your N9 still booted up without using Harmattan flasher as seem to be slowly becoming extinct now.

I think most "freelancer devs" have accepted that the current platform (Maemo/Meego Harmattan) is dead.
There are serious efforts to create a new platform, Maemo Leste. There's a subforum here on tmo.
Leste currently concentrates on Nokia N900 & Motorola Droid 4 hardware, but an image for N9/N950 also exists.
That said, many openrepos.net apps still work, and some Leste software efforts might be compatible with current Harmattan.

the phone works well. only the modem is dead. of course nearly everything is outdated as hell but it's okay anyway.

i guess so but enthusiasm is still around as i see. but why maemo? the restriction of the meego source code? i thought sailfish also can be an option on N9. sad that nokia let these things fall apart.
