I like claws but hate the speed...just seems slow to me compared to other programs on the 810.

So my understanding is that we have 3 choices ? 1-Default built-in client, 2-Claws and 3-Modest, and ONLY Claws gives us html and shows pics ?

The default client for me is fine though I wish I could view html emails and have the choice to view pics/attachments.

I don't dislike Claws but it seems a bit overcomplicated with so many icons and options in such a small space (screen real estate).

Modest to me seems almost a merge of the default browser and Claws, but I don't believe it handles html nor pics.

I had it installed when OS2008 was first available but then un-installed it to try Claws and now when I tried to re-install Modest it seems to have saved my settings as when it loads it just sticks on retrieving and never stops, a continuous cycle..

So I guess it boils down to wanting an easy to use default player but have the choice of viewing html mail and pics.

I'll throw in yet another email option for you. Download and install the KDE program. It is a totally new world on the Tablet with it's own built in Email Client. I can't tell you how it works however because there seems to be either a glitch or I don't yet know how to set one of the dialogue boxes so that I can see the bottom to complete the email account setup process. But it looks like a good program. The rest of KDE is amazing too with Calendar and personal information manager, office software and more. If I can install KDE ,you can too.

I don't run OS2008 yet, but my understanding is that the e-mail client is the same old one as in OS2007. If so, then the reason for the startup problem is that a sub-process of the e-mail client is still running. This blocks the startup. The reason for this is one of two:
a) The periodic e-mail updater is running. If so, a retry a few seconds later will succeed.
b) It was in the process of communicating with the server when the network was disconnected. For some reason this will leave the process hanging, and the e-mail client can't be started no matter what.

The fix for this is simple: In an xterm, enter 'killall enprocess' (without the quotes). After this everything should be ok. It's a common enough operation that I have added it to the load-applet-run applet's functions (by clicking 'Run', entering 'killall enprocess' and ticked the 'save' option.) Now I just hit load-applet-run and click my 'fixmail' entry. With this the problem is solved, at least it's no bother anymore (until I figured out the above I had to reboot the device.. not good.)
