What kind/brand router do you have? The broadcasting thing isn't an issue as you've already tried 3 other unsecured WLAN's. If you go to Control Panel->Conectivity->Connections-><Your WLAN id>->edit-> it should say WLAN ->Next->Network mode:infrastructure->security method:none->Next->Advanced->Proxies: none whatsoever -> IP Addresses: Auto-retrieve (i.e. you have DHCP enabled on the router (which is usually the default).

Does your other 770 have the same problem?

I assume you mean control panel on the 770. I just went through the settings and they are exactly the same as your post. According to the connection wizard I have full strength from my router but it will not connect. I keep getting a "network connection" error message.

I thought these things were supposed to be easy to set up.

I bought the one at CompUsa just to check out to make sure it wasn't a harware problem then I returned it.

One more thing if I use AD hoc mode the 770 connects and the recieved, sent, and duration blocks are filled in on the connection manager page but I cant surf the web. With infrastructure mode the fields are all blank.

I haven't seen anything like that. If I'm in online mode, I click the globe, connection manager, connect, the name found. If I want to keep it or not, I click ok or cancel. Then I get a flashing w on the globe, until it connects. At home, on my G-network I get two bars sitting next to the router, but full bars when laying in bed.

Did the one you try at compusa work at home with your home setup?? It seems that several people that have posted when they got them off ebay, got bricks or close to it. (brick meaning a unit that doesn't work).

What kind fo router/AP do you have? Knowing that will allow others to confirm successful pairings between 770 and that model of router and possibly give you specific configuration advise.

If you have no problem getting a connection in the store, I would guess that the router/AP is where your problem resides. Sometimes power-cycling your AP is enough to clear any confused state that it has gotten into after being on for a long time.

Thanks for the help, but I fixed my problem. I had to turn the MAC filtering off on my router and it connects fine.

How do I add my device to the MAC filter list so that I can leave the filter on?

Again, thanls for the help.

As for your router you'll have to read the docs. Each router is different. You'll need the the mac address of the 770. To get that you'll need to be root, and have ip utils installed. the command ifconfig will show the mac address next to Hware: for wlan0.

The MAC address is printed on a sticker beneath the battery.

I never noticed that sticker before.
