You launching it this way, then? The failure to show text can happen several ways; the LC_MESSAGES=C LANG=C bit takes care of one of them, and setting the font to fixed takes care of another...

(And if it's neither of those... I dunno.)

I still have one very annoying problem. The main window / Playlist is always on top, even when I try to "Load File", "Save File" etc option. It kind of annoying have to get rid of Main+Playlist to Add/Load/Save File/Playlist and then get Main+Playlist back up. Any solution to this? I read all the links didn't notice one.

minimize it and then drag it to the top of the screen. On another note, beware, xmms is a bit heavy on the battery.

I actually think Xmms seems to heavy on CPU and Memory usage too. Multitasking with Xmms running seems slow down the N800 quite bit sometimes.

I have the Home - Mem runing. With Xmms running it just eats away memory slowly till there is only about 4kb free mem left. As much mem as the Web Browser takes. The build in player takes a bit less.

Well, yes; that CPU usage is what uses the battery; as for the possible memory leak, don't know.

But generally, any CPU-based decoding is going to be worse CPU- and battery-wise than the DSP one.

FWIW, I've been using Xmms daily for about 5 months and I've never noticed a memory leak because of it. There must be something else causing your leak.

Also, most of the increased CPU usage comes from using the EQ and or the pre-amp. If the battery life is a problem for you consider turning one or both of those off. Personally, the EQ is the main reason that I use Xmms - so I'm happy to sacrifice a little CPU/battery time for having the EQ.

Benson showed me this trick, I have since reduced to something I can remember:

xterm
xmmsctrl main 0 main 1

And thats it.

Some info about xmms and its use, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=20350
