No there is no 3g. But i guess edge is every where.Actually the fastest i could get was 60Kb in the city (hyderabad). You can get those laptop cards which are a little faster..... but don't count on broadband speeds.

1.Market:- Nokia releases each and every model it releases in international market in India on the same day as in other markets. No matter how expensive they are. There is a market for such phones. We have Blackberrys for 2-3 years now(even more). Regarding people not comfortable with the interface of 810, I am not saying that this will be a very big success but it will do fairly well since there is a big Techie group of people who wants freedom 810 provide.

2. No 3g:- Nokia introduced 6630 which has 3g 3 years(may be more) ago and has been releasing such phones regularily.

3. No wifi/wimax:- people who will be customers for this phone most probably will also have wifi. I mean i have wifi at home and college and many places are increasingly having free wifi.

4.Profits for Nokia:- As far as I know 810 is not as popular as an iphone or a blackberry even in US or other markets. Why not in India?

Plus I think Nokia can sell this phone via their official website. I think they do have an obligation for the many open source users here.
Any one from Nokia do reply.

Nokia aren't idiots - if it was profitable they'd do it, i'm sure they thought about it... it's not a question of obligations... its a business

Try contacting Nokia and asking - but i doubt they will give you the details of the expensive market research process they went through.

It may be more viable with next device N900! (3g). Then TATA indicom, Reliance, and others can push N900! for their networks. Looking forward to it...

My trip with N800 was very dry. Only used in airports with TATA indicom wifi
