But will it reboot? I was under the impression that when you switch off it doesn't unless you are unplugged?

I could well be wrong though!

Bit of confusion on my part. I normally reboot my machine from the command line "sudo reboot" which will work with the power connected. Your statement is correct when using the power button to boot a charging tablet which was powered down. Surprisingly "sudo shutdown now" also cause reboot.

if it's the battery then you shoul hear some noise when you shake the n810.
when you try to connect via usb the system umount both the internal and external sd cards, the message you get means that one of the cards was busy and the process was interrupted.
if you have the debian chroot open you sould close it with closechroot or it won't let you umount the card.
That appears to have been the cause of the reset problem. I had the unit in my shirt pocket last night after securing the battery, and fell flat on my back. the N810 didn't even blink. Once I regained my senses, that was the first thing I checked.

Apparently the problem is not completely fixed. While it did not reset after my little spill last night, I turned it on today and connected to (as it turns out really crappy) wireless network from which I was unable to get out, I opened the application manager. I opened the App manager, which loaded slowly, and tapped "show installed applications." At this point, I got the Nokia splash screen.

In fact, I had the app manager open as I was typing this, with the device sitting flat on my desk. It sat open for about 2 minutes, then reset. Note that I also have the screen set to lock the keys and screen after two minutes and it had timed out.

My main concern is that this is indicative of a problem with the device itself. I want to rule that out before I run out of the 14 day RMA period (which is currently down to 11). Does this appear to be a problem with the device or perhaps a bum app that could be the problem? Should I try to reflash and start over? I haven't got a lot of stuff on here yet, so that is an option. I just want the opinions of those that have had theirs for longer than I.

thanks,

I've had my N810 for months and not seen your problem. Re-flash sounds like a good idea to me. When reflashing make sure you're on AC power.

The wiki says fully charged but not on AC power. Is this mistaken?

for the reflash you can charge and then reflash, but i think that fragos way is right too. follow the wiki and you're surely right.
my n810 was rebooting only while i was moving it, seems like that in yours some service fails and the n810 reboots. i'm not sure but i think i've read something about it, try searching the forum for dsmetools. i'm sorry but i'm in a hurry and i can't help you more than this way.

The goal is to not have the battery go dead in the middle of a flash. As tasks go flashing is pretty power intensive. I successfully flashed mine with the AC connected and a well charged battery. If you power down for some reason the N810 won't start with the power button while connected to AC. If you reboot from the command line "sudo reboot" it will reboot on AC power. It's my suspician that the power switch lock when charging is the basis of thinking you can't flash on AC. Perhaps an N810 predecessor was that way. I can only speak to my personal experience. No doubt flashing on fully charged battery will work.
