I have a very old t-mobile total internet VPN plan (for 19.99 and includes 100 MMS, yes, MMS, SMS I get charged for). The only APNs I can use are the epc one and internet3. If I set it to internet2 it won't connect.
Bizarre, huh? Sometimes I don't need a public IP and would be happy with private behind NAT so I would use internet2 and save an IP -- but I guess that's not allowed.

As X61 stated 3G depends on the availability in your area, I had 3G for calls without the data plan.
