I did not read any where that Nokia claimed n900 can playback avi files. I did not read any where that Nokia claimed n900 can do 1080 files either. Im not sure where your getting this information from.

erm yes nokia said it plays avi out of the box. It does doesnt it?

ok im wrong about avi, but 1080 i do not think so..

can anyone comfirm it plays xvid out of the box?

wmv and avi are containers, they can contain a vast number of different types of video, which require codecs. Not all codecs exist for maemo, hence you can't play all videos. For example those containing drm will not work on the N900.

You must be new to the English language. "With comprehensive codec support" means that you need to have the codec installed for the specific file you're trying to play.
