Bumping.

Do any of you have any idea how this might have happened so it won't repeat itself?

Did you check from xterm if it's really gone?
try this:
launch x-term
type
Code:
cd MyDocs
du -h
du means "disk usage" and it shows how much different directories uses. -h means readable by humans.

you should get a great big list, and the last number should show the total disk usage. If it's a lot, then you're files are still there.

If they are, then you can start looking at solving the problem.

Did you install RC 1.2?
And did you install extra decoders support?
If so deininstall extra decoders support, then reset your media tracker from Xterm, then restart your n900, everything should work again.

Try running "dmesg" in the terminal and see if there are any FAT related errors, if so your disk got corrupted.

Yes.

I'm using pr1.1.1. No FAT32 errors. Everything seems to be fine.
If this happens again soon it will be the straw to break the camel's back and I would probably return it for a Droid. This is so dumb.

16GB is a huge chunk to go missing.
I would open an xterm, do a du -h -T and see how much of your 32GB is left. My gess is you will see that 16G of it is still assigned somewhere.

You might want to do the following to try to find any JPG files. This may give you a hint at where your files are.

sudo gainroot
# find / -name "*.[Jj][Pp][Gg]" -print

This will search your entire file system for any jpg file and hopefully point you at the location of where they are.
