Writing to the flash memory is slow? I've seen speeds of 10MB/s easy when copying files over USB onto the internal flash, thats ~80Mb/s and should easily be able to cope with a wifi connection...

yeah, I think something is up with this. Might log an error report and see where it leads...

I have noticed that when I SCP files over wifi it is painfully slow - 300KB/s (as measured by filezilla)

I can get around 8mbits with the powersaving setting to the max, so it's definitly not a wireless problem...

Tried with any other router or AP ?

But the writes tend to block all I/O and use 100% CPU waiting, which could(?) interfere with wifi driver operation. It was a theory.

Remove the encryption. You'll get wayyy faster speeds, but absolutely no security... That's one way.

A quick iperf test from my wireless laptop as server to my n900 as client shows around 6.86Mbps.

I'm using a DD-WRT'd WRT54g. Powersaving is enabled on my n900.

Well, apparently it's not the SSH encryption making my SCP transfers so slow.

EDIT:
Powersaving on/off/intermediate has no effect at all for me. It stayed within the ballpark of 6.86Mbps with each setting. I even disconnected from wireless then reconnected. Short of a reboot, I don't actually know if the settings took effect or not.

What's the matter? Conky tells me I am connected at 54mb/s and quality is good, so...

Anyone seen similar behaviour?

How did you measure the speed? Downloading random files from the internet is not reliable.

And as others have written already, check power saving and send power.

No, I mean the WEP/WPA encryption. For example on my WRT610N with a Wifi-N card that "syncs" at 300Mbps, I can get transfers at about 18 MBytes/s, and if I enable WPA, it falls at about 8 MBytes/s.
