The majority of the HADK is actually porting Mer, the last bit simply creates packages for the SFOS stuff, you can most likely figure out how to fix up the rootfs to include whatever you would like UI wise.

EDIT: Yeah chapter 8 of the HADK is where you start to build the rootfs for the image by the looks of it
