Also, they have a few new videos up on http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/touchbook/gallery.htm
Attila77, does this mean you got your hands on a review unit? Would you care to comment on the basic quality of the unit? I would be more interested in the construction and parts than the tipping issue.

And I wouldn't have an issue with more counterweights, since I believe the unit is lighter than a traditional laptop. Especially since the weights are in the base, which wouldn't add any weight in tablet mode.

Alas, no unit, they're not really shipping outside of the US, just following folks/forums who have gotten it. You are right about the weight, the complete two-part contraption is under 1kg (~2 lbs), so it's certainly worth a try adding in a few strategically placed grams in the keyboard section (with good chances of AI doing that itself in the new batches).

They already have a couple of weights added:

Dunno if they had those in the units of the first batch, one guy who got his from the second batch said it's not tipping too easily. It's possible they have added tham later and it's now okay

Don't feel bad. I'm a popular reviewer and even *I* can't get one for review. Hardly anyone can right now. Of course, AI isn't the only ones with that problem. I've been requesting a couple different review units from a variety of manufacturers since early last year and STILL can't get any review units from them. The best excuse comes from Neuros in regards to their Link internet tv player. They claim that they can barely fill orders, so review units won't come till later, if ever. I honestly think that they're selling the units so well that they don't CARE about ever giving out review units. So long as they sell so hot and fast that they can't even keep up with demand, what purpose do they have for reviewers? None really. Hardware reviews were an old school way to get a product noticed. I think that in the future you'll see those either become very rare, or vanish all together, save for the few people who bought the devices and reviewed them that way. The days of free review units is going away. At least it is from my perspective.

depends somewhat, as there seems like quite a few people are able to score review units for netbooks and similar...

but then i get the feeling they come from webshops, not the companies making them...

Well, it's getting increasingly hard for the little guys to get them too. So unless you're a big name site or company with lots of cash behind you, forget a review unit. That's also why I don't deal with the big corps much anymore. Most of the little companies love little guys like myself, Phoronix and others, because we give them lots of free press. The big guys are big enough that they don't care anymore.

I did post a thread on the AI forum linking back to the negative review, but other than on other guy saying "I'd be interested in hearing about that too", but no feedback from AI...Which rather disappointed me.

Has anyone heard anything about construction changes? I'll be honest, I am so itching to buy one of these...

There has been discussion about the hardware changes, and there are even different revisions of the main board already.

Anyway, I just got an email saying:
Dear Mr. Roope Kuisma,
Your order has been processed successfully.

I'll get one soon! w00f!
